The Best Pizza in Seattle: Top 5 Picks

Seattle, Washington is a gorgeous city with so much to offer, and (perhaps unsurprisingly) — that includes pizza. While there are countless shops I would have loved to include on this list, only a select few can earn the title of the best pizza in Seattle. From crispy Detroit-style pizza and tangy sourdough pies to more creative options (Filipino pizza, anyone?), there’s a lot to cover today.

So, what’s on the menu?

The Best Pizza in Seattle: Top 3

Delancey

Delancey is a classic Washingtonian joint, through and through. They’re an award-winning pizza shop that’s been around for well over a decade serving up classic thin-crust pies using local, carefully selected ingredients. From Washington wheat to sustainably-raised local meat, they take the PNW attitude of local, fresh food very personally.

Visitors will notice picture-perfect attention to detail in every aspect of Delancey’s atmosphere and food. The dough is airy, a little chewy, and charred to perfection; their cheese and meat are delicious; and the produce is undeniably fresh. While that may seem like the standard, Delancey is anything but.

While their menu is relatively small, featuring only nine named pies, this level of simplicity leaves room for diners to enjoy the cocktails, appetizers, and laid-back bare brick and hardwood interior. You can swing by seven days a week to see why Delancey has been a Seattle staple for 14 years.

Sunny Hill Seattle

Sunny Hill Seattle is another work from the mind of local legend Chef Jason Stoneburner. This particular joint takes inspiration from his previous restaurants, Stoneburner and Bastille (now sadly closed), diving head-first into the classic PNW tradition of local, fresh, and handcrafted food. They opened in 2020 and braved the storm of the pandemic, coming out as one of the most widely-beloved new entries to the Seattle food scene.

Unlike his previous works, though, Stoneburner’s new shop embraces pizza in two forms — the crispy-edged square Detroit-style pizza, and everyone’s favorite classic fluffy-crusted round pies. While pizza is the star of the show, there are a few cheeky additions that are worth a mention, such as a delightful burger, gnocchi, and a truly fantastic appetizer list.

Sunny Hill Seattle is a fantastic option for vegetarian readers, as true to Stoneburner’s style, delicious local veggies tend to take the star seat on the menu. While that’s not to say that meat is nonexistent, they hammer home the reality that vegetables can be (and are) delicious. Swing by Sunny Hill Seattle Wednesday-Monday for a cheeky little dinner — you won’t be disappointed.

Moto

West Seattle natives will likely know this name would be on the list. Moto, previously known for their months-long wait list, has finally expanded to Edmonds and Belltown, enabling those who couldn’t wait to try what all the buzz has been about. Their signature is a Detroit-style crispy (square) pan pizza that features Filipino ingredients and a classic Seattle attitude.

Their motto, FATTT (Flavor, Appearance, Taste, Texture, Temperature) is apparent with every bite. Crispy, airy dough and perfectly fresh produce combine with unique styles to create undeniably unique pies. While the food is incredible, that’s not all to what makes Moto so special.

Perhaps Moto’s most unique signature is their approach to sustainability. They recycle 1% of their dough to form a tasty starter, and a whopping 80% of their produce comes from a combination of hydroponic farms, foraging, and their own little garden. In short, you can expect the best of the best from Moto — exactly as it should be.

Lupo

Lupo is centered in Upper Freemont, tossing sourdough wood-fired pies in tandem with local beers, seasonal snacks, and a fantastic rotating cocktail menu. Their owner, Chef Cameron Hanin, has earned quite a bit of love over the years thanks to his previous joint, Stevie’s Famous.

Ballard Beer Box is, arguably, the quintessential Seattle joint.
