Now, what’s up for dinner tonight?

The Best Pizza in Greenwich, CT: Top 3

Grigg St. Pizza

Grigg St. Pizza is something of a unique spot in modern times. They’re not an artisan gourmet affair, nor are they insistent on serving something for everyone. Rather, Grigg St. Pizza serves simple, quality pizza in a style and manner that makes the restaurant’s chefs and guests happy. While that certainly isn’t for everyone, it’s something that I grew up thinking was the norm — a simple, family-owned joint that does a few things incredibly well.

That’s not to say that they don’t have diversity in their food, because they do, but the menu is simple and to the point, as stated by their motto, “simple, consistent, delicious.” This is emphasized by their comfortable and relatively quiet establishment and backed by a minimal (but top-notch) menu.

A small assortment of pizza, both by the slice and whole pies (alongside a few salads and sandwiches) has earned Grigg St. quite a bit of local love, and it’s entirely deserved. While I can’t force you to swing by, I can encourage it enthusiastically — which is precisely what I’m doing now.

Fortina Pizza

On the other end of the spectrum, we have Fortina Pizza. This spot is a bustling, modern pizza joint with a touch of attitude that’s immediately noticeable upon entering. They’ve been serving up “straight-up Italian food” since 2012, winning multiple (i.e., well over twenty) awards for the quality and simplicity of their food.

Whether you want a classic hand-tossed pizza, Italian classics (lasagna, ravioli, fresh meatballs), or a quick drink, Fortina has it all. And that’s not to say that they sacrifice quality for an overwhelmingly large menu — because they don’t; rather, it’s a relatively condensed menu with fourteen pies and a selection of seasonal classics.

The simple truth is that a restaurant doesn’t get glowing reviews from the likes of The New York Times without doing something right. I highly recommend that you give this joint a shot at any of their locations throughout Connecticut and New York — it’s worth the time.

The Pizza Post

Those who’ve been around town for a bit already know this name and, likely, expected it to make the list. They were a hometown favorite for years until they, sadly, burnt down in October of 2019. Two years later, they’re back stronger than ever, serving up classic pies, Italian-American appetizers, and a few cheeky pasta dishes.

Each menu item simply oozes love and attention to detail, but pizza is certainly the name of the game. Their red pies pull from classics and modern takes alike, offering everything from house inventions to classic Margherita pies, and their white pies (though limited) offer the same simplicity and flavor one should expect from such a charming spot.

Ultimately, even if they hadn’t reopened, I’d suggest you visit their old spot, if only to pay homage. The Pizza Post is a fantastic joint filled with chefs whose love for their craft shows — so swing by and see what the fuss is about.

As always, it’s time to honor a couple of joints that, while not in our winning trio, still deserve recognition. Sometimes, these joints are smaller chains or places that do simplicity well; other times, they’re put in the honorable mentions because they don’t quite fit into the mold of a classic pizza joint.

No matter why they make this list, the simple truth is that they did make the list — so check them out.

Bella Nonna

Bella Nonna is a local hidden gem that deserves a bit of recognition. While they didn’t make the top list, that’s not due to a lack of quality — rather, they’re more of a full-blown Italian-American joint, rather than just pizza. This meant that I couldn’t recommend them above local staples who specialize in pies, but it also means that they deserve a moment of your time when the mood arises.

Glenville Pizza

Glenville Pizza is a name that’s been in town since 1976, offering up delicious thin-crusted pies, calzones, and salads. Whether you want a simple slice, a classic NY-style pie, or a Sicilian pizza in all of its crunchy goodness, Glenville is the spot to be. Check them out the next time you want a quick and easy pie — they won’t disappoint.
