Review

Have you found yourself dreaming of wood-fired pizza, only to be left disappointed? With the Ooni Fyra, unsatisfied pizza cravings are a thing of the past.

The Ooni Fyra is a portable pizza oven fueled by wood pellets. It is made of double-insulated, powder-coated stainless steel that ensures great heat retention, maximum burn time, and minimal energy waste. The impressive gravity-fed pellet hopper eliminates the need to continuously feed the fire inside the oven and the chimneys allow for ample airflow to keep the fire going.

There is enough cooking space in the Ooni Fyra to cook a 12” pizza, but your options aren’t limited to pizza. The Fyra is also great for cooking steak, bread, meat, vegetables, and more. You’ll be blown away not only by what all you can cook in an Ooni Fyra, but the flavor that the wood pellets and high temperatures add to your food.

The Ooni Fyra preheats in 15 minutes, which is comparable to the average kitchen oven. But unlike your everyday oven, the Fyra reaches 932°F, a temperature high enough to cook a 12” pizza in 1-2 minutes.

At $299, the Ooni Fyra is affordable and because it weighs just 22 pounds, it’s portable enough to move from one location to the next.

While not everyone can justify spending that amount of money on a pizza oven, you’ll have a hard time finding any customers who regretted their decision to buy one. It’s an exciting addition to anyone’s cooking repertoire and one that you will want to use every chance you get.

SummaryThe Ooni Fyra is a remarkable, portable, wood-fired pizza oven. No other wood-fired portable pizza oven on the market today offers the heat retention and burn time of the Ooni Fyra, with little to no energy waste.

Features

The Ooni Fyra takes the hassle out of wood-fired cooking with an innovative gravity-fed pellet hopper. Hardwood pellets fuel the intense heat that gives your pizza, steak, and other foods mouthwatering flavor that can’t be matched.

From the moment you light the fire, it takes just 15 minutes to heat to maximum cooking temperatures. And at temperatures that high, you can cook an entire 12” pizza in just 60 seconds.

The lightweight, portable design of the Ooni Fyra means you can take it with you to your next get-together and share the joy with your family and friends.

SummaryUsing the Ooni Fyra is completely hassle-free from start to finish. The Fyra tends to burn through fuel quickly, but assembly, use, and cleanup are a total breeze.

The Good & Bad

Good 👍

  • Portable/lightweight
  • Easy to assemble
  • Easy cleanup
  • Removable ceramic plate
  • Easy disassemble and store

Bad 👎

  • Can be difficult to light
  • Tends to lose heat quickly
  • Burns through fuel quickly
  • Short burn time

Ease of use

One of the most common complaints about the Ooni Fyra has to do with lighting it. Ideally, you would simply remove the grate from the back of the oven, fill the oven with pellets, and use a lighter to get things going. However, if you don’t have a fire lighter, you may run into some trouble. The pellets are sometimes difficult to catch fire, but with a fire starter, such as paper, you shouldn’t have much trouble.

The oven space of the Ooni Fyra is relatively thin, which means you can cook a pizza with ease, but you won’t be able to fit a roast chicken. You should still have plenty of room to slide in a hefty slab of steak, naan bread, or vegetables, all of which can be easily cooked with the Ooni Fyra.

SummarySome customers have complained of difficulty lighting the Ooni Fyra; a problem that can be easily solved by using a firelighter and a fire starter. Once the fire is going, you’ll quickly discover how easy it is to crank out pizzas, meat, bread, vegetables, and more.

Who is This Oven for?

The Ooni Fyra is a conveniently-sized pizza oven that is beginner friendly but impressive enough to be used by advanced pizza chefs. The pellet hopper makes cooking a breeze with its gravity-fed design. You don’t have to worry about continuously adding wood to the fire as your meal cooks.

Because of its size and portability, the Ooni Fyra is a must-have for anyone who wants to share their love of pizza with friends and family, without being confined to one spot.

However, we should mention that while wood pellets are an easy fuel source to use, it might not be the greatest option for some people. A gas-powered oven provides more temperature control and doesn’t require a fire starter.

SummaryIf you want to create restaurant-quality, wood-fired pizza, the Ooni Fyra is for you. Because of its size, it is especially convenient for anyone who wants to share their passion for pizza with others. Everyone, from beginners to professionals, can enjoy all that the Ooni Fyra has to offer.

Build Quality and Design

The Ooni Fyra maintains the shape of the classic Ooni pizza oven that soared to the top of consumers’ wish lists. However, this model was designed to be a small oven, but packs more power than your average indoor, at-home pizza ovens.

The Fyra has two chimneys. The one in the front of the oven helps circulate air inside the oven and the second, smaller chimney at the back of the oven which is the pellet hopper.

Like the other Ooni pizza ovens, the Fyra is made of double-insulated, powder-coated carbon steel. This means it not only looks sleek and modern but does a decent job at retaining heat. Unfortunately, the outside of the Ooni Fyra does get hot, so you’ll want to keep your oven out of reach of children and avoid touching the surface of the oven while using it.

While not in use, the Fyra is built to withstand fair weather conditions which means you can store it in a shed or garage, but you’ll want to avoid leaving it outside uncovered. You should also make sure the oven is completely cooled before storing, which can take up to two hours.

The vent on the back of the Ooni Fyra pulls air inside the oven to keep the fire going. The Fyra also has foldable legs, a noteworthy feature of Ooni ovens that make them easier to transport and store. The legs are long enough to allow ample air circulation between the oven and the table.

The Ooni Fyra also comes with a door that helps to maintain a consistent temperature inside the oven. The door is a convenient feature that was designed with a hook so that it can hang at the bottom of the oven opening. The handle is reinforced with glass to keep it from getting too hot to touch, even when heat from inside the oven is blasting the inside of the door. There is a small opening in the door beside the handle that allows you to see inside the oven without opening the door. This is ultra-convenient for times when you need to make sure the fire inside is still going.

SummaryOoni Pizza Ovens have earned a reputation as some of the sleekest, best-designed pizza ovens in the business. With double-insulated, powder-coated carbon steel, the Ooni Fyra looks like a modern appliance and offers maximum heat retention. Just be aware that the outside of the oven does get hot.

Performance

The performance of the Ooni Fyra is nothing short of impressive. The oven is fueled by wood pellets and reaches 932°F (500°C) in just 15 minutes. This can be attributed to the main chimney that pulls heat from the back of the oven to the front. The interior, while small, is equipped with proper insulation to ensure optimal heat retention.

To start the fire, you fill the pellet tray and add a fire starter. Light the fire starter, insert the fuel tray, and sit back while the oven heats up. As the fire grows, a gravity-fed system adds more pellets to keep it going. In just 15 minutes, the oven reaches maximum temperature and is ready to use.

Because the oven maintains such a high temperature, you will want to frequently rotate your pizza as it cooks. Otherwise, you’ll discover just how fast raw dough can turn into burnt crust.

SummaryThe wood pellets that fuel the Ooni Fyra allow it to reach 932°F (500°C) in 15 minutes or less. The gravity-fed system ensures that the fire won’t go out as your food cooks.

Value for money

Of all the Ooni pizza ovens, the Fyra is the most affordable one. It offers impressively high cooking temperatures and an attractive, convenient, and portable design. It heats up quickly, cranks out pizzas in 1-2 minutes, and requires very little upkeep. You won’t find another product that offers as much as the Ooni Fyra at such an affordable price. In terms of value for money, the Ooni Fyra is the ultimate must-have pizza oven.

SummaryThe Ooni Fyra is more affordable than other Ooni models. With a long list of impressive features, the Fyra is well-worth every penny.

Overall Thoughts

Whether you are a beginner or a more advanced pizza connoisseur, you’ll be blown away by everything the Ooni Fyra has to offer. Its price tag means you don’t have to go broke to enjoy restaurant-quality pizzas at home. It’s portable enough to take with you to your next garden party or barbecue. The gravity-fed wood pellets are an environmentally-friendly, convenient fuel source if you don’t mind cooking with them instead of gas. Speaking of cooking, you can enjoy a lot more than just pizza when cooking with your Ooni Fyra, which makes it that much more impressive.

Purchasing the Ooni Fyra may be one of the best decisions you make this year.

Review: 4/5

Update: One Year Later

The Ooni Fyra is the only portable pizza oven by Ooni that is fueled exclusively by wood pellets. Initially, the lack of versatility in terms of fuel options can seem a bit limiting. But looking back on the last year with my Ooni Fyra, “limiting” isn’t a word I can comfortably use to describe this pizza oven.

In fact, I was surprisingly grateful for a wood-fired pizza oven. Especially a wood-fired pizza oven that performs as well as the Fyra without any hassle. The oven was designed to make it easy to add the wood pellets, which meant never having to worry about keeping the fire going. And while I was initially concerned about how well the Ooni Fyra would maintain high temperatures inside the cooking chamber, those worries were quickly put to rest. Each time I fired up the Ooni Fyra, the oven quickly reached temperatures well above 800 degrees Fahrenheit and stayed there the entire time I was using it. That kind of temperature control is hard to find in a wood-fired pizza oven.

If you are on the fence about whether you should buy the Ooni Fyra, consider this: it is one of the best, if not the best wood-fired portable pizza ovens money can buy and it’s guaranteed to be worth every penny even years after you fire it up for the first time.
